My uncle is a relatively early adopter of technology, so I was not completely surprised to hear him recount a story of how he recently used an online ‘request 3 quotes’ service to find the right painter to help him paint his garden fence.

He was delighted by the experience and was surprised that more people hadn’t caught on to the opportunity to ‘request 3 quotes’.  This made me wonder how long it would take for consumers to adopt the request for quote consumer tool ie. provide the details of your project once, then let multiple service providers contact you and compete for your business.

It has been exciting to see consumer adoption of lead generation growing – this year Service Magic will complete 1.5m consumer requests for quotes – and there are thousands of other smaller players offering a similar service to service magic.

Additionally, the model is being applied to new verticals outside of the traditional home service categories such as child minding, dentistry, plastic surgery and fertility treatments.
